wellz, i just realised it like today. and i realise that there are people out there who are even worse den me.. cause i go for three days but i only bought stuff on one day... see... i'm not so bad right? haha.. ok. i'm still bad.
i think many youths are struggling with this 'materialism' thing. i am too! i yearn for many things(see my wishlist!) yepz. i'm still a youth what... and somehow, we dont outgrow this materialistic thing... EVERYONE yearns for branded items once in a while... and for your info, everything in this world is branded. just tt some brands are more expensive tts all..
It is human nature to want riches, branded goods and what not. but wanting too much is WORSHIPING these items. buying something you dont need, or buying something and not using it is wasting resources and wasting money.i think...
i think we Christians struggle with this materialism thing... and we struggle to know if it is right or not. whether or not it is so called 'unchristian-like'. well, here's my two cents worth...
many christians try to account for this pursuit for material goods by saying: the world is like that.. and so if i want to be able to identify with and evangelise to the rest of the world, i have to be like them... you know tt christians arent perfect anyway, just forgiven.
well, if you take it this way, let's all go take drugs so that we can evangelise to the drug addicts ya?
The bible stated clearly in Romans 12:2, "Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God—what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect." in the Message version, it states "Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. ".
Is it not clear enough that we are not to follow the ways of the world? that we becoming like them to evangelise is not a valid excuse? you dont HAVE to be a materialistic girl to share God's word with materialistic ppl. like Jesus didnt have to be Sinful to share God's love and word with us. He came into the world to be human like us. But he didnt have to sin to evangelise to us sinners.
Materialism is wrong. as the bible states: "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon." this verse appears TWICE in the bible! once in Matthew 6:24 and another time in Luke 16:13.
Mammon is money if you were wondering. so now you ask me: so? we are not talking about money here.. we are talking about Material Goods! ya. but dont these material goods cost money? in order to get these goods, you have to have spending power right? yepz. i dont know if you all understand what i'm talking about... haiz. i hope so though..
the most valuable things in the world cant be bought with money.
